Permanent Work Visa Consultant

A permanent visa is a visa which qualifies you as a permanent resident of Australia. Permanent work visas are a type of permanent visa which are linked to a specific job which you can work in Australia. There are several types of permanent work sponsored visas, including regional visas, skilled migration visas, business investment visas and global talent visas.
  • Regional visas permit skilled migrations to work in regional Australia, under either the Regional Sponsor Migration Scheme (subclass 187) * or the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa (subclass 191**). The subclass 191** visa supersedes the subclass 187 visa for all applications made after 1 July 2021
  • Skilled migration visas allow skilled migrants the ability to work anywhere in Australia. Skilled migrants can apply through one of four visas: the Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186)**, the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)** and the Skilled Regional visa (subclass 887).
  • Business investment visas enable entrepreneurs, investors, and business owners to operate or to establish a new enterprise in Australia. Business investment visas include all streams under the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888).
  • Finally, Global Talent visas facilitate people who have demonstrated exceptional performance internationally in an eligible field. The primary visa in this category is the Global Talent visa (subclass 858), and nomination is required for application.
Migration services are notoriously difficult to navigate. In fact, it can be a challenge to even find out which Australian businesses are open to sponsorship visa applications. Fortunately for you, a permanent work visa consultant, or a registered migration agent, can help you to apply for a permanent work sponsored visa with ease. This might include preparing the relevant documents for your application, or helping you reach out to the relevant employers who might sponsor your visa –  helping them to simplify the process which can seem daunting. *Permanent visas marked with an asterisk, are no longer operational and are superseded in some cases. ** These permanent visas marked with this asterisk require employer and or state government sponsorship.

An employer sponsored visa is a visa which allows a worker from overseas to work in Australia, thanks to their sponsorship by an employer in Australia. They might permit you to work for a short period of time, or they might allow you to work permanently.

There are several types of employer sponsored visas, including the Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482), the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) and the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (subclass 191). These generally fall under two pathways: temporary residence transition and direct entry.

Temporary residence transitions require (482) visa holders to be employed with the same employer for three years and require that their occupation is on the designated Medium and Long-Term Strategic List (MLTSSL) by the Australian Government.

*According to recent updates in March 2022, there are special concessions outlined in the government’s most recent release of the legislative instrument LIN 22/038.

The direct entry pathway to permanent residency for employer sponsored visas also requires the applicant’s occupation to be on the (MLTSSL), in addition to the applicant needing: to complete a skills assessment; possess a minimum of three years’ experience in the occupation; be under 45 years of age unless they are exempt.

When applying for employer sponsored visas, migration agents can help you to identify the relevant skills required by the Australian immigration authorities, such as by reviewing your skills set against the requirements to obtain a positive skills assessment.

A permanent employer sponsored visa consultant, like one from our team of immigration agents at Mygration, can not only help you to apply for direct entry to longer-term employer sponsored visas. They can also assist you if you are only seeking temporary sponsored work, such as through temporary business sponsors.

A migration agent can also help you to reach out to an Australian employer. Whether they’re a regional employer or one in a metropolitan centre, Mygration will ensure they cover the steps they need to take and make the process simple – without the headaches of doing this on their own.

Permanent Work Visa FAQs

What is the employer nomination scheme?

The employer nomination scheme grants skilled workers access to work and permanent residence in Australia. To be considered for application, you must be nominated by an approved employer in Australia, and possess the skills and qualifications relevant to the position prior to application.

Other requirements, such as being under 45 years of age, possessing a sufficient English language proficiency, meeting health and character requirements, and meeting the relevant requirements of your specific stream, are also necessary. However, you may be eligible for exemptions in these fields.

How do I find a good immigration consultant?

Finding good immigration consultants or registered migration agents can be an arduous task, just as navigating Australian immigration can be. Generally, the best visa consultant Australia has to offer will explore your employment background, your visa options and the details of your unique visa application.

They may offer you an initial consultation or commitment free briefing which discusses the required skills, documents or qualifications which might grant you the visa you seek, be that a temporary visa, training visa, sponsorship visa, or perhaps one which is only relevant to jobs with specific labour shortages or those requiring highly skilled workers.

The best permanent employer sponsored visa agent will help you find the appropriate regional employer who is an approved sponsor or help them to become an approved sponsor, which will help you on your way to permanent residency. They will also have an intimate understanding of the skilled occupation lists posted by the Australian Government, as well as a knowledge of the process for acquiring a nominated position or skilled position in Australia.

What is the difference between a temporary skill shortage visa and a permanent employer sponsored visa?

A temporary skilled shortage visa is one which permits you to work in Australia roughly 2 – 4 years. Your occupation will need to be listed on the required occupation list, which is updated by the Australian Government periodically each year. Exemptions for a temporary skill shortage visa may be possible if your employer can negotiate a labour agreement.

A permanent employer sponsored visa, meanwhile, is a visa which allows sponsor skilled workers to work permanently in Australia. A permanent employer sponsored visa consultant can help you explore the different types of permanent visas available to you, however the two primary examples include the Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186) and the Regional Sponsor Migration Scheme (subclass 187).

Permanent visas are also available through business investment visas, such as the Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa (subclass 888). For business visa enquiries, you can contact a business visa consultant who specialises in your needs.

What is the difference between permanent residency and a permanent work visa?

Permanent residency is the legal status afforded to people who are not Australian citizens but have the right to reside in a country on a permanent basis. Permanent residents can receive government support, such as through payments and government-run programs, however they cannot vote in Australian elections, and they cannot automatically be granted re-entry to Australia after time abroad. Permanent residents may have some requirements which they need to uphold to allow them to remain in Australia.

Permanent work visas are one pathway to obtaining permanent residency in Australia, alongside family-stream permanent visas and business or investor-stream permanent visas. People who hold a permanent work visa will need to seek out Australian employers to sponsor their stay in the country.

To find out whether you’re eligible to be a primary visa holder in Australia with a nominated occupation, you can contact a permanent work sponsored visa consultant to discuss your visa options, to negotiate labour agreements or to explore other services which might be relevant to securing skilled visas.
