What is an EOI?

Applying for a Visa can be difficult at the best of times which is why it is important to understand all of the requirements for the specific Visa you are applying for. Every Visa will have different stipulations and a different application process. An EOI (Expression Of Interest) is part of that Visa application process for those who are applying for a Skilled Visa.

Why do I need to lodge an EOI?

If you are applying for any of the following Visas you will need to lodge a SkillSelect EOI form to begin the application process:

* Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189 Visas)

* Skilled Nominated (subclass 190 Visas)

* Skilled Regional (Provisional) (subclass 489 Visas)

* Business Talent (subclass 132 Visas)

* Business Innovation & Investment (subclass 188 Visas)

Skillselect is an online service which works on a points system for the government to assess the merit of an applicant achieving a Visa to work in Australia. You must lodge an EOI through the SkillSelect system in order to receive an invitation to apply for a Skilled or Business Visa to Australia.

It is also beneficial (but not essential) to lodge an EOI for other Visa programs to assist with potential Australian authorities and employers finding your application and possibly offering a job in your designated industry. These Visa programs include:

* Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS)

* Regional Skilled Migration Scheme (RSMS)

* 457 Temporary Work (Skilled)

How do I lodge an EOI?

Your Expression Of Interest is lodged online and although you will be able to view your overall points score upon completion, you will not be able to view your rankings compared to other applicants.

Can I use my Migration Agent to submit my EOI?

Yes you can. As per the Australian Governments Department of Immigration and Border Protection website, it states that you can use the services of a migration agent to submit your Expression Of Interest. However, it is also recommended that you only use a registered migration agent who is bound by the Migration Agents Code of Conduct. To find out if a migration agent is registered you can view the list of registered migration agents through the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority website
