A recent review of the required skills for Australia has highlighted a new skill set that is in high demand and it isn’t IT.
There appears to be a significant shortage of tradespeople so much so that the Department of Immigration and Border Protection have advised that if you have 5 years experience but no formal qualification in one of the following trades, you have the opportunity to apply through the General Skilled Migration Pathway.
These trades include:
The application process through the General Skilled Migration scheme is slightly different to mainstream visa application due to the fact that it involves being invited by a business owner or local government to apply for a visa – once you have passed the initial Skills Assessment.
There are several factors which can assist in a successful visa application through the General Skilled Migration Pathway such as:
Having 5 years experience in your particular field
Passing the points skill test
English language ability
Invitation to apply from a local or state government or employer
