Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF) introduced by Australian Government

On the 1st of July 2016 the Australian Government announced that the official roll out of their Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF) had begun allowing international students an easier and more streamlined way to apply for visas to study in Australia.

The news has been welcomed by visa applicants, learning institutions and migration agents due to the emphasis of keeping the application process simple through online applications. In addition to being easier to apply for a visa, the Government has gone one step further and simplified the amount of student visas that can be applied for with the actual student subclasses being reduced to two.

The student visa subclasses available for application now fall under:

  • Student visa (Subclass 500)
  • Student Guardian visa (Subclass 590)

The online application system is beneficial for many reasons including:

  • A more targeted approach on risk management (ie if the applicant is a genuine student)
  • creating efficient processing
  • Directing applicants to the correct area of questioning dependent on their immediate responses
  • Only one option available to apply for student visa (subclass 500)
  • A combined country and education provider risk framework guides a student’s evidentiary requirements.*
