A newly formed specialist team who has only been in operation since the 1st of July 2015, has claimed it’s first victory for the immigration department.  The Australian Border Force (ABF) was established with the primary aim of maintaining border protection and security duties.

The ABF has already proved it’s worth by identifying 12 illegal workers in Queensland who were in breach of their visa conditions.  The ABF is a combination of the merger of two existing government departments, the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and areas of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

The Australian Border Force is responsible for:

  • Operational border compliance
  • Investigations
  • Detention
  • Compliance
  • Enforcement

The penalty for working in Australia outside of your visa allowances varies depending on circumstances and the severity of the breach.  It is imperative when you apply and receive a visa to live and work in Australia, that you are aware of all of the conditions and restrictions of the visa.
