Migration News Update – COVID19 New Visa Subclass 408 Temporary Activity Visa

In line with our previous article which highlighted the visa arrangements for temporary visa holders in Australia, a new stream has been announced and added to the subclass 408 Temporary Activity Visa – which falls under Australian Government endorsed events. The migration regulations go on to specify the COVID 19- pandemic as a government endorsed event for this visa.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THIS VISA?

You must hold a current valid temporary visa AND need to remain in Australia if you have no other visa options and are unable to depart Australia due to COVID-19 travel restrictions

AND

You must hold a current valid temporary visa holder and remain in Australia to assist in critical sectors including healthcare, disability and aged care, childcare and agriculture during the COVID-19 pandemic

KEY CRITERIA TO APPLICABLE TO BE GRANTED THIS VISA

  • Your temporary visa will expire in less than 28 days
  • You are unable to apply for the same temporary visa you currently hold or held or any other subclass of temporary visa other than the Subclass 408 visa
  • You must be part of response to workforce shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic in relation to areas including, but not limited to, agriculture, aged care and public health
  • You must have the relevant skills to be eligible to undertake critical work relating to supply of essential goods and services
  • This new legislative instrument is now in effect from 5 April 2020

The visa application fees for the SC408 Visa under this stream is Nil
