Federal Budget announces increase to Visa Application Charges

There were a lot of big changes and shake-ups announced in this weeks Australian Federal Budget. One significant change that directly affects the migration industry is the increase to Visa Application Charges (VAC). Many Visa applications to Australia have received an increase in application fees, some as much as 50%.

The increase in the VAC’s has been announced to assist in:

A) Keeping in line with the 2.3 per cent inflation rate.

B) Fund national security initiatives and programs to support stronger border protection.

The increase Visa Application Charges will be effective from 1st July, 2015.  The Visa applications that will be directly affected include:

2.3% Increase

  • Skilled Graduate Visa
  • Temporary Long Stay Business Visa (Subclass 457)
  • Visitor Visa Streams
  • Student Visa Streams
  • Permanent Migrant Skill Streams

5% Increase

  • Working Holiday Visas
  • Contributory Parent Visa streams
  • Resident Return and Retirement Investment Visas
  • Temporary Resident Short Term Business and Entertainment Visas

10% Increase

  • Specific Visas with the Parent Visa stream (non-contributory)
  • Specific Visas within the ‘Other Family’ Visa stream including:
  • Remaining Relative Visa
  • Carer and Aged Dependant Relative Visa

50% Increase

  • Significant Investor Visa Stream
