Engineering Visa applicants in demand

The Engineering industry is going from strength to strength, especially in relation to visa applicants. The assessment process through the Department of Immigration and Border Protection has become more streamlined to enable a quicker and smoother system for visa applicants – and the Department.

In order to work as an engineer in Australia there is certain criteria to be adhered to.  The visa required to work as an engineer falls under the Skilled Visa scheme and can offer a variety of options including:

  • Skilled – Recognised Graduate Visa (subclass 476)
  • Employer Nomination Scheme – Subclass 186 (Permanent)
  • Long Stay Business Visa – subclass 457 (Temporary)
  • Skilled Nominated Visa – Subclass 190

The demand for qualified and/or experienced engineers in Australia continues to rise resulting in the Department of Immigration and Border Protection having to review the application process to make it easier for applicants, sponsors and employers.

There have been several changes including changes to the English Language Requirement, the introduction of the Skilled Recognised Graduate Visa subclass 476 specifically for Engineering students whom have recently graduated; and State Nomination lists including Engineers as an ‘in demand’ profession.
