The 1st of July marks a day for a lot of changes to many government departments due to the recent federal budget. There have been many changes to the immigration department relating to processing visa applications, application fees, terms of existing visas and so on.
One such change that will impact a lot of applicants and Australian businesses who employ foreign workers is the update to the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) and the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL). There has been a bit of ‘reshuffling’ for some occupations.
The Skilled Occupations List is for applicants who are eligible for:
The occupations that are no longer part of the Skilled Occupations List include dentist, dental specialist and urban and regional planner.
The Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List which is applicable for applicants under the Employer Nomination Scheme, Skilled Regional Provisional and Skilled Nominated Subclass only ‘lost’ one occupation of Primary School Teacher from it’s list.
The SOL has however received two new occupations on it’s list of panelbeater and cabinetmaker.
These changes will be imposed on any visa applicants who apply on or after the 1st of July.
