There has been a lot of talk over the past week about the census and with good reason. The census has asked approximately 24 million people of 10 million dwellings to spare ten minutes of their time and answer a few questions to collect an accurate representation of the nation.
On the official Census night, August 9th, there was a bit of controversy with the census website failing to load due the amount of people attempting to log on being the first year that the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has offered an online option.
The Census started over 100 years ago in 1911 and was designed to not only get an accurate understanding of the residents living in the country but to also assist future planning for infrastructure. The national survey is conducted every five years.
