Skills Shortage rise in Australia

Industry in Australia is increasing which is reflected in the rising of the Australian Dollar. While the economy boom is developing at a rapid rate, Australian employers are struggling to fill the skill demand. CEO of an oil and gas producer David Knox strongly agrees that ‘Australia needs to tap into the large pool of foreign skilled labour to meet the planned development of energy projects in the years ahead’ – Herald Sun (19/11/2012).

Each year the Department of Education publish a list of skills in demand throughout Australia. This list is analysed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). The new immigration changes to the skills select program addresses these skills shortages by allowing overseas recent graduates and skilled individuals to lodge an Expression of Interest to apply for permanent residency in Australia. DIAC has already issued over 3000 invitations from 1 July 2012-15 October 2012. This is based on their annual occupation ceiling.

Results for the next invitations sent out for November will be published soon. Watch this space.
